LIGHT & SHADOWS PARTY KICKS OFF "NEW OREGON" WITH MUSIC, ART, & FILM
June 20 event at Yoga Shala of Portland features over two dozen artists, writers, and performers
Portland, Ore.---On the longest day of the year, Portlanders will celebrate Yoga Shala of Portland's birthday at a benefit event for New Oregon Arts & Letters. Featuring music from the likes of Grey Anne and Meaghan Gannet with Michael Stirling, and films by Vanessa Renwick and Andy Blubaugh, the Light and Shadows party brings together talent in many artistic disciplines.
Screenwriter ("Wendy and Lucy") Jon Raymond and author Lidia Yuknavitch are among the evening's readers. New installations, performances, and videos were commissioned for the show from Seattle's Vanessa DeWolf, London transplant Lena Munday, and local artists including Linda Austin, JC Schlecter, and Meg McHutchison. Please keep reading for the incredible full list of participating artists.
"New Oregon is not so new," said Tiffany Lee Brown, director of the non-profit organization. "We evolved out of a 2 Gyrlz Performative Arts project called 2GQ, founded seven years ago as a magazine." Revenues from the Light and Shadows party will benefit the group's New Oregon Interview Series, which begins June 24 at Urban Grind East with guests Mic Crenshaw, Alicia Rose, and Slim Moon. The series was initiated by Nora Robertson to explore "how Portland's new creative culture developed and where it's headed."
Light & Shadows will be held Saturday, June 20 at Yoga Shala of Portland's North Portland location, 2808 N. Williams, from 7:00 p.m. to midnight. Suggested donation is a $5–20 sliding scale at the door; all ages are welcome. For those 21 and over, a cash beer and wine bar will be provided. Stone Brewing and Plazm magazine are event sponsors.
