Thursday, March 26th, 7pm - Portland writer, performer, and interdisciplinary artist Tiffany Lee Brown brings the Easter Island Project: Participation Tour to the Synthetic Zero Art Space in the South Bronx (a mere twenty minute train ride from Union Square, for those who might be averse to leaving the confines of Manhattan).
We are compelled to create-to make, write, act, and give birth. How do we manifest this deep desire? How do our creations---novels, babies, and atom bombs---affect our lives, our culture, and our planet?
The Easter Island Project invites audiences to explore the questions through the act of creation itself with Plazm magazine editor Tiffany Lee Brown, as she prepares for an interdisciplinary art expedition to Easter Island in the South Pacific. The "Easter Island: participatory tour" welcomes live audiences at intimate gatherings in Seattle, New York City, Portland, Prescott AZ, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
The work, while lighthearted in many respects, arises from Brown's explorations into childlessness and the act of creation. "With Tiffany, it's always about the lived issues," said Stephanie Snyder, curator and director of the Douglas F. Cooley Memorial Art Gallery at Reed College in Portland, when interviewed about Brown's work. (The Oregonian, Jan 24, 2009).
