Hi All:
Just a quick reminder--the registration deadline for the Plein Air Writing Exhibition is August 8! Join other writers and painters as we set out to capture the beautiful Columbia Gorge over Labor Day weekend (August 28 - September 1). After visiting a variety of sites, you have the option of submitting one of your pieces for publication on the Columbia Center for the Arts website and also in participating in a public reading on September 14. The registration fee is $15.
Information about the event is available on a special blog: http://pleinairwriting.blogspot.com
Carpooling could be arranged via the blog. Here are some additional questions I've received:
Do I have to attend all five days?
No, you could go to one site per day or, two sites on one day and three on another, or all five on one day. Or you can skip one or more days altogether. But it's most fun to go when the painters are at work: in the morning of each day.
What is the application process?
This is not a competition. The painting side of the event is, and someday a competition might be included on the writing side, but for the time being this is an open event. Everyone who enters is invited to send their best piece for publication on the CCA website, and everyone is invited to participate in the reading (though we'll have to limit the numbers if they exceed what can be accommodated in one evening).
If you have other questions, feel free to contact me. I have been involved as a participant for the past three years, and think it is a lot of fun to go out with a bunch of other artists and writers--especially since writing is typically a solitary endeavor. Come and join us!
