Ever noticed, especially in Portland, the gap between the worlds of "dance" and "performance"? Tahni Holt is among our fair city's artists who bridge that gap; Holt's work expands well past the borders of pure body-focused movement and dance into creative conceptual explorations.
Non-dancers now have the chance to work with Holt in her "Raw Beginnings" class at Conduit, beginning Monday, May 5. Drop-ins are welcome to check it out for a single evening. —Tiffany Lee Brown (image: Holt at left and Linda Austin, right)
From Tahni Holt:
This monday is the first class!
A reminder:
I am emailing in regards to a raw beginnings movement class I am teaching at conduit dance: http:www.conduit-pdx.org starting on may 5th through june 9th. Every monday from 5:30-7:15pm. Drop-ins are welcome.
If you are interested in how one or two or more things move in space and time and how a seemingly simple choice in direction or sensibility can manifest momentum or not, or if you are interested in experiencing yourself more in your body for your any art form or your walking or your sense of well being or just because you want to try to do something with others in the room who are also trying to do something, or if you are wanting to have a good time where others want to have a good time too then this is the class for you.
Oh and we might do some of this too...
This beginning class will focus on the most basic skills used in contemporary dance, such as alignment, movement memory and traveling through space, along with how to naturally use weight, momentum and balance.
Regardless of how little and I mean little, or how much and I mean much, movement you have had I hope to see you on some monday soon.
Please pass this along to those you think would be interested.
