SOMEDAY IS NOW

Gyrl about town, cirkus ringmaster extraordinaire, noise musician, Butoh performer, and self-described "arts maven" Noah Mickens -- your friend and mine -- has been working hard to prepare an entirely new venue for Portland audiences, where acts are booked with a visionary's zeal instead of a capitalist's desire for predictable bands and old standbys. Get in on the opening action at Someday Lounge this week with Diego Piñon, Blinglab (Marne Lucas + Bruce Conkle), Jollyship the Whiz-Bang, 2 Gyrlz Bon Voyage Party, St Vitus Dance, and Societas Insomnia. Details follow.

Opening Week Schedule:

9/12 - JOLLYSHIP THE WHIZ-BANG (presented with PICA's TBA festival)

9/13 - DIEGO PIÑON
FOLLOWED BY SOMEDAY OPEN STAGE

9/14 - BLINGLAB (presented with PICA's TBA festival)
FOLLOWED BY 2 GYRLZ BON VOYAGE PARTY (see previous post for details)

9/15 - BLINGLAB (presented with PICA's TBA festival)
FOLLOWED BY ST VITUS DANCE CLUB

9/16 - BLINGLAB (presented with PICA's TBA festival)
FOLLOWED BY SOCIETAS INSOMNIA: The King Cycle

At long last, friends and well-wishers of Someday Lounge, we are
about to open our doors.

This is really happening. The club is nearing completion, the
sound system was just installed, lights are up, concrete is drying,
and we're all just hours away from dragging the last of the debris
out of the room and sweeping the floor clean.

We'll open for one week, 9/12 - 9/16, in a state of partial
construction. It's like seeing us for the first time without our
clothes on.

It will be a gathering place for the spirit family of fools, freaks
and mutants who have been named The Creative Class by outside
observers. A nightclub and digital lounge, pushing the boundaries
of what can be done onstage, nightly.

We have so much beauty planned, I don't know where to begin. New
forms of beauty, unfolding before your eyes every night and
inviting you in.

And to ring in our arrival, we're hosting a
week of puppet shows, dance parties, nightmare circuses, and a solo
performance by one of the living masters of butoh dance.

So this is it. Read on for more details, and please visit our
website to see photos and find links and gaze into our shared future.

We love you.

TUESDAY 9/12:
PICA'S TBA FESTIVAL PRESENTS
JOLLY SHIP THE WHIZ-BANG
Laboriously crafted and delightfully insane pirate puppet rock
operas, catchy nautical electro pop, and mindblowing cheap stage
effects. Somewhere between a band and a theater group, with none of
the hangups of either, Jollyship the Whiz-Bang is an internationally
irresistable 8 person multimedia force of nature from New York!
8pm-9pm
$7, $6 for TBA members

WEDNESDAY 9/13:
DIEGO PINON, founder of Butoh Ritual Mexicano, in his first-ever
Portland performance - "Ekua Itsi: Behind the Mirror"

Snr. Pinon is making a rare pilgrimage to the Northwest, from his
home in the mountains of Michoacan, where he lives alone in a state
of uncompromised artistry.

With Ekua Itsi: Behind the Mirror, Diego Pinon celebrates ten years
of creating solo Butoh Ritual Mexicano dance and honors both the
death of his father and the guidance he has received from Kazuo
Ohno, the 100-year old co-founder of butoh. In this piece, Pinon
explores the Father as an archetype, the predominance of a "macho"
mentality that traps man as if in a hell, and how multiple forms
of power and injustice survive. Seeing these patterns within
himself, Pinon explores where man and woman can exist beyond the
gender divide, as if from the same essence. To go beyond limits,
borders, and mind restrictions is an essential part of the
confrontation and integration of multi-dimensional qualities of
masculine/feminine that support the continued evolutionary process
in our planet.

8pm-9pm
No Seating After Show Begins, so arrive early!
$10

Followed by
SOMEDAY OPEN STAGE
A forum for spontaneous creation, featuring a pre-qualified pool
